摘要
本研究采用质性研究方法,在大量访谈、编码分析与座谈的基础上,研究案例大学20世纪60年代末的组织文化观念。这一时期,美国公立大学的教学活动受到重视,学术人员可以自主在教学、研究及服务职责间转换工作重点。三种角色在学术人员心目中的重要性与优先地位也不存在明显差异。学术人员普遍认为公立大学的主要使命就是通过高质量的教学活动提高本州公民受教育水平,增强该州经济活力。在此基础上,案例大学的中高层领导运用智慧,致力于建设平等、融洽、开放的横向学术共同体,促进教师的感情融入度,提高他们参与院校治理的热情,为案例大学的可持续发展奠定了坚实的基础。
This research is based on qualitative methodology.After intense interviews,coding and group discussion,the dichotomy of organization cultures of American public universities between late 1960's and early 2000's emerges.This article presents the faculty's understanding of organization culture in 1960's.Coding scheme reveals that in 1960's faculty members serving in American public universities attached greater importance to teaching.Faculty members with different professional priorities were more equally represented in professorship promotion.It was generally agreed among faculty that the mission of public institutions was towards education state citizens.Premised on this popular institutional belief,the leadership in the case university cultivated a collegial culture that attached the faculty members emotionally to each other and thus to the institution.This emotional involvement motivated them in participating in institutional governance.
