The difference between the two versions of The Sequels of a Dream of Red Mansions by Gao E and Wen Hao-ran

高鹗的《红楼梦续》和温皓然的《红楼梦续》都是曹雪芹《红楼梦》的续书。虽然两本续书都展现贾、史、王、薛四大家族的衰败,但是从主题解读接受、人物发展结局和叙事艺术手法三个层面进行细致比较分析,还是可以发现两本续书在本质上存在较大的差异。这种差异和作者所处的时代、性别以及阅历有关。

The two versions by Gao E and Wen Hao-ran separately are among the sequels of Cao Xue-qin＇s A Dream of Red Mansions. The two sequels both show the decline of four families Jia, Shi, Wang, Xue, but through careful comparative analysis from the theme interpretation and acceptance, character development and artistic narrative, a big difference between them can be found. This difference has some connection with the author＇s times, gender and experience.
