摘要
随着大航海时代余波震荡,西洋器物、技术知识逐渐加速度进入中国。士人知识阶层对传入的西方造物产生强烈的兴趣。明末士大夫王徵和欧洲传教士邓玉函合作了第一部西洋力学和机械器物的译著《奇器图说》,该书不仅是对西方知识的翻译,也会通中国传统造物的知识逻辑,其会通成书的真正动力也来自传统儒学。而传统价值动机与《奇器图说》来源知识的价值观存在不可避免的矛盾。明末中西造物知识会通与价值矛盾的种种表现甚至在数百年后第二次西学东渐中仍能清晰重现。
With the aftereffect of the time of Great Voyag,west implements and technical knowledge were introduced to China in an accelerated speed.Class of literati and officialdom was strongly interested in west implements.Wang Zheng,a literati in late Ming,and Johann Terrenz,a European missionary,together translated the book into Chinese for the first time about the study of mechanics and machinery in the west,Illustrated Handbook of Machinery(Qi Qi Tu Shuo).It was not only a translation about western knowledge,but also combined traditional Chinese mechanical knowledge logics,and the true drive to make this book was from traditional Confucianism.However,there were unavoidable contradiction between the motive of traditional value and that of knowledge from Illustrated Handbook of Machinery.Representations of such combination and contradiction showed clearly even in several hundred years later during the second trend of eastward spread of Western Culture.
