Translation and Introduction of Western Philosophy in China between Late 19th Century and Early 20th Century

19世纪末20世纪初,是国人自觉、全面译介西方哲学的起始阶段。一些思想开明的士大夫、留日政治家和留日学者,在此阶段扮演了译介主体的角色。他们或以经世致用为目的,或以纯粹学术研究为目的,在中国开创了轰轰烈烈传播近代西方哲学的景象。但这一阶段,译介方法比较粗略,对西方哲学介绍的广度和深度都还不够。

The period from late 19 th century to early 20 th century was the initial stage when western philosophy was voluntarily and comprehensively translated and spread into China. Open-minded feudal officials, politicians and scholars who had been to Japan played a leading role in this grand activity. Some of them were initiated to serve the country, some were for academic sake. On the whole, approaches to translation and introduction were rather random and failed to have an extensive and intensive study.
