Rather, and pri- marily, it is the phenomenological impact and power of the work, the ability to involve location and viewer, the lo- cal and the remote, all at the same time-a form of mobi- lization both perceptual and conceptual-that creates its true scale. This is what the audience of Huang Yong Ping's first solo show in Italy is invited to consider: a surpris- ing, uncanny series of works from the multilayered and challenging imagination of a highly original artist, with all its wealth of references, allegories, and cruelty.
