0n the Third Signal System

人的心理活动就是人脑对各种刺激所产生的条件反射活动。刺激可分为三种,即第一信号、第二信号、第三信号。条件反射可分为三类,即第一信号系统、第二信号系统、第三信号系统。第一信号系统是有机体受第一信号刺激所产生的条件反射活动。第一信号系统为人和动物所共有,它使人和动物得以适应客观环境、繁衍生息。第二信号系统是人脑由第二信号为刺激所产生的条件反射活动。第二信号系统为人类所独有,它能使人类认识改造客观和自身,使人类智慧超越动物,成为生物链的最高端。第三信号系统是人脑以第三信号为刺激所产生的条件反射活动。它是在前两种信号系统基础上形成发展的,它悄悄改变人类的大脑结构和功能,进一步提升人类的智慧。

Human psychological activity is in fact a conditioned reflex produced by various stimulus to the brain . The stimulus exist in three types , namely the first , the second and the third signals . The conditioned reflex can be divided into three parts：the first , the second and the third signal systems . The first signal system , shared by man and animals that live , multiply and adapt to the environment , is a conditioned reflex engendered by its stimulus to the organism . The second signal system , peculiar to man who can surpass animals in wisdom to be the highest link of biological chain by cognizing and transforming the environment and themselves , is another conditioned reflex generated by its stimulus to the brain . The third signal system , which on the basis of the former ones , evolves by gradually changing human brain＇s structure and function and further improving human intelligence , is also a conditioned reflex created by its stimulus to the brain .
