Xue Mo's Ye Hu Ling( The Wild Fox Ridge) is a collision and blend of two narrative themes—"the desert"and"the soul". With the mysterious disappearance of two noted caravans on Ye Hu Ling( the Wild Fox Ridge) twenty decades ago as the basic plot, the novel aims to uncover the dust-laden mystery and restore the long-lost historical truth with "me"summoning by holding mantras in the hand and listening to accounts of various ghosts. The entire novel gives a strong texture of life, and the writer attempts to realize "the trans-boundary"of the inner soul through the "transcendence"of individuals, species and history with a view to ranking other living creatures with human beings and showing due respect for the former and to building a divine bridge of"equality"among all living things.
