Medium-voltage(MV)and high-voltage(HV)power cables constitute an important role for the continuous energy delivery to the customers.Despite a network redundancy, high reliability of the cable connections is necessary to maintain required network reliability.During the past period, the cable production technology has been a subject to a continuous change. For that reason, utilities around the world operate a number of cable types in their networks.Particularly,in the Netherlands, the distribution grid is constructed only with cables. Moreover, parts of the transmission grid also consist of HV power cables. The cable connections being in operation for a period of over 30 years suffered from different stresses during their service time. This continuous stressing results in gradual decrease of operational abilities and inevitable failure occurrence. In the period from 2008 to 2014,in the High-Voltage Group at TU Delft, several research projects on the reliability of MV and HV power cables of different types have been run.The current article contains a detailed review of the work that has been done.In each case, the problem description together with the applied methodologies and obtained results is presented. At the end of the paper, the suggestions for future researchers are

In the period from 2008 to 2014, in the High-Voltage Group at TU Delft, several research projects on the reliability of MV and HV power cables of different types have been run. The current article contains a detailed review of the work that has been done. In each case, the problem description together with the applied methodologies and obtained results is presented. At the end of the paper, the suggestions for future researchers are made
