伊尹的姓氏得自洛阳伊河。伊尹躬耕的"有莘之野"当在今天伊河上游洛阳市下辖的栾川县、嵩县一带。在灭夏兴商斗争中,伊尹的作用主要表现在间夏兴商、助汤作战、迁都西亳和佐汤建制等方面。伊尹放逐太甲而复立之,死后受到天子之礼的待遇。毛泽东认为伊尹是可法之人。
