Marie Ndiaye was born to a French mother and a Senegalese father. As the second generation of immigrants to France, she is especially sensitive to regions and her own identity; meanwhile the experience of “being abandoned” at an early age strengthened such sensitivity. Her famous novel Three Strong Women reflects exactly what has been haunting her: moving mainly between France and Senegal, three women struggled for their survival, confused about their self iden- tity and inheritance, and even feared repetition of history-within families, as between peoples. As far as Feminist Geogra- phy is concerned, female's regional identity is inborn: females are closely connected with regions where they accumulate experience and cultivate consciousness. From the surface level, the novel reflects female's confusion in regional identity; from a deep level, the novel is a reflection of female's confusion in their self identity. In the book, Ndiaye gives a full play to regions from the angle of women's consciousness, making the regions a carrier of “female psychology”.
