Racial Writing of the Imagining “the Other”: The Analysis of the Tendency of the Latent Orientalism in Carson Mc Cullers' s Novels

美国南方作家卡森·麦卡勒斯对美国南方根深蒂固的种族歧视观念与现实冲突非常关注。在其作品中,她力图超越自身所处文化中的种族主义狭隘观念,真实地展现黑人、菲律宾人和犹太人等少数族裔的生存境遇和文化困境,但也存在着"刻板化"黑人、"女性化"菲律宾人和"神秘化"犹太人的倾向,为他们烙印上或显或隐的东方主义特征。运用萨义德的东方主义理论,可以解读麦卡勒斯对黑人、菲律宾人和犹太人等少数族裔形象的东方主义想象,揭示其作品中"隐蔽的东方主义"倾向,并探讨这种"他者"想象背后所隐藏的深层动机。

American southern writer Carson Mc Cullers focuses on issues of racial discrimination and ethnic conflicts. Although her project is antinationalist,she describes the black,the Filipino,and the Jew as orientalism others. Based on the theory of Orientalism,this thesis makes a theoretical analysis on the tendency of the latent Orientalism to reveal deeper motives.
