The concept of managed lane and its application in America were briefly introduced. Combined with the background of domestic traffic infrastructure construction and booming urbanization, the role that managed lane could play in mitigating ＂traffic jams and improving traffic capacity was analyzed, and the prospect and strategies of managed lane applied to expressway and urban trunk road reconstruction and expansion were discussed.
