An interpretation on Structural Establishment and Evolution Of the Mansion Army Institutions in Sui Dynasty

隋文帝开皇年间由中央十二府与东宫十率府构成的府兵军府,各军府职能有所差异,军府之间存在内、外宿卫之分,府兵宿卫制度体现出重内轻外的特点;十二府中八府统领着府兵,其基层军府为开府府与仪同府,其后则演化为骠骑府与车骑府。至炀帝大业年间,将开皇时期的十二府扩充为十六府,十六府与东宫十率府在职能分工上有了较大调整,十六府中形成了以十二卫分统鹰扬府,左右备身府统领雄武府的组织结构,表现出结构功能分化的制度特征。

The Mansion Army Institutions which are made up of twelve central Military Institutions and ten Military Institutions for protecting Eastern Palace reflect different functions during Sui Wendi Kai Huang years. Among the Mansion Army Institutions,Palace Guards embody an inside and an outside,the system of which exhibit a striking trait of taking the inside more seriously than outside. Eight of twelve central Military Institutions which are based on Kai Fu and Yi Tong Military Institutions command Mansion Soldiers,and then evolved into Military Institutions of Piao Ji amd Che Ji. In the Daye Period of Sui Yangdi,twelve central Military Institutions extended to sixteen,Both of sixteen central Military Institutions and ten Military Institutions for protecting Eastern Palace have changed much in the aspects of functional divisions. Among sixteen central Military Institutions,twelve of which command Military Institution of Ying Yang,the left and right Imperial Bodyguards rule Xiong Wu Military Institution,which embody the institution characteristics of Structural and functional differentiation.
