In the studies of ancient Chinese literature,it would be a misrepresentation and a tragedy if the voices from commoners of civil society were not taken into account. There are many commentaries, some of which contain great insight,of ancient Chinese writers and works by the common people hidden in extant materials such as family histories and folktales. These spontaneous literary commentaries from civil society have special significance for us to understand the learning and transmission process of Chinese literature,as well as the meaning and value of literary works.Collating and analyzing these materials are necessary because of their being scattered and unsystematized.
