Appraisal of Visual Semiosis in Journalistic Discourse—A Case Study of News Reports on Death of Margaret Thatcher

为了更好地理解图像新闻所渗透的个人与媒体的态度,结合系统功能语言学框架下的视觉语法和评价系统以及图文关系理论,分析图像符号的评价资源。以英国主流媒体对撒切尔夫人逝世的报道为例,阐释图像的互动意义评价和图文关系引发的评价意义,以阐明新闻中的图片本身以及图像与文本的关系都蕴含着的意识形态。

In order to uncover the attitude produced in news photos,the paper,from the perspective of Visual Grammar and Appraisal Theory,along with text-image relations,analyzes the attitudinal resources implied in visual signs. It then conducts a case study of reports on death of Margaret Thatcher by mainstream British newspapers to look into the detailed functioning of attitudes included in the photos amidst these selected media in terms of both the photo in itself and the image-text relation.
