Jean-Pau Sartre＇s existentialism emphasizes man＇s existence and freedom being the core concepts of literature. Tess is usually shadowed within tragedy and she is said to be the victim of the society of that time,however,her sadness is rewarded by true love of her husband in the end. Tess matures in mind after free choices,even though the choices are made bitterly or with struggles. Thereafter,her choices embody her self-values and soul＇s improvement.
