After 1937, Japan energetically developed its "broadcasting undertaking" in Taiwan and "Manchukuo" and in- tensified the construction of the colonial "broadcasting circles" (radio network). The historical drama, opera, and other mod- em broadcasting drama had achieved widespread popularity in Taiwan and "Manchukuo" because of their rich entertainment, fun and the implicit emotion of a nation. Muzzled by the colonial cultural policy, the cultural performance markets in these two regions were relatively depressed while "broadcasting drama" was unusually prosperous, which made it possible for the cultural workers in the regions to gain some drama creation space.
