Speech act theory is a core theory in pragmatics. The classification of Speech act is an important and hot topic in contemporary linguistic research. This paper states Searle＇s classification of Speech act theory by analyzing the adequate and inadequate aspects of Chomsky＇s theory. It provides an instrument to analyze speech act and answers the question： How many kinds of illocutionary acts are there？
