Review of Zhang Jian's Harnessing of Huaihe River

清末民初淮河流域水灾濒发,身为绅商的张謇目睹灾害给淮河流域人们带来的巨大损失,忧心忡忡,决心要下大工夫治理淮河。他不仅多次上书中央和各地方政府,提出治理淮河的计划和方案,而且还亲身投入到淮河及其他河系的水利治理。张謇治理淮河的精神以及为治理淮河所积累的经验,为后人从事淮河整治提供了宝贵的借鉴。

At the end of Qing Dynasty, the Huaihe River brought many disasters to people of the Huaihe Valley. Zhang Jian determined to harness this river. He not only proposed the plans and programs to the central and local government on many occasions, but also took part in the water harnessing of Huaihe River and other rivers. The spirit and experience of Zhang Jian in harnessing Huaihe River provides valuable reference for future generations in Huaihe harnessing.
