Peer victimization is prevalent among adolescents and leads to negative effects and hazards in many aspects. Therefore, to examine the mechanism of its important consequences seems very important for prevention and intervention. Questionnaires were used by 764 junior school students to examine the situation of overt and relational victimization, externalizing and internalizing problems as well as the school engagement. Using data analysis techniques such as correlation analyses and structural equation, it was found that: respectively, 48.3% and 57.5% of the students reported having at least once victimized relationally and overtly by peers; after controlling for the effects of gender and overt victimization, relational victimization positively predicted adolescents' internalizing problems and in turn influenced their level of school engagement; after controlling for the effects of gender and relational victimization, overt victimization positively predicted adolescents' externalizing problems and in turn influenced their level of school engagement; boys were significantly more overtly victimized by peers than girls; but the frequency of relational victimization by peers in boys and girls may be similar.
