The Limits of the Practices of New Historicisms

新历史主义批评在方法上存在着一定的缺陷:往往采取对立面所使用的解构法而陷入被解构的危险中;依赖轶事来阐发文本而有过度联想的嫌疑;对语境的过分强调有忽略文本审美价值的倾向。分析新历史主义批评方法中的这3种缺陷并非为其掘墓,而是试图为新历史主义的未来发展提供参照。

The practices of New Historicisms have some limits. First, they tend to use the tools they condemn and thus risk falling prey to the practices they expose; second, relying on anecdotes to interpret the literary texts is suspected of excessive connection; and the last, their overemphasis of the contexts is inclined to neglect the aesthetic values of the literary texts. By exposing the limits of the practices of new historicism, this paper intends not to claim an end to them, but attempts to provide some reference.
