On Grice's Conversational Implicative Theory and the Generation of English Humor

在人类语言交际过程中,合作原则通常是交谈双方将谈话继续下去的基础,但是,人们在交谈时往往总是有意或无意地违反合作原则及其准则以达到某种交谈目的。因此,本文将通过对合作原则和会话含义的产生和特点的详细阐述,以英语幽默语言为例,分别从质量、数量、关系和方式准则四个方面进行举例分析,证实即使会话违反了合作原则及其准则,仍然能够有效地达成会话目的。

In the process of human communication, the cooperative principle is usually the basis that the two sides of the talk will contin-ue. Often people in conversation, however, always consciously or unconsciously violate the cooperative principle and its maxims in order to achieve a certain purpose. Therefore, by stating the cooperative principle and the generation and features of the conversational implicature in detail, this article will take English humorous language as an example and give some conversational cases respectively from four max-ims-quality ,quantity, relation and manner to confirm that even if they violate the cooperative principle and its maxims, they still be able to effectively achieve the conversational goals.
