摘要 The issues of war and peace captured international attention in 2014.It was the centennial of World War I,and the focus was on tensions in Asia for the first half of the year.One radical Western view went so far as to compare today's China to pre-war Germany in the midst of rapid economic growth,rising nationalism and a beefed up military.The hype about Beijing's alleged regional expansion peaked at the Shangri-La Security Forum(Singapore)in May 2014.However,events on the ground proved such glib accusations wrong.In October 2014,this author accompanied several other Chinese scholars in a visit to seven U.S.think tanks.Our American hosts were not The issues of war and peace captured international attention in 2014.
