Hemingway in his short story a clean,well -lighted place,taking the old waiter as the main line and the young waiter and the old man as the auxiliary line,reflects a true scene of lost faith,moral decadence and loss of morality in postwar western society,and shows author’s observation and thinking for the western society after the war.Meanwhile,the setting -up of the old waiter’s image contains a belief and desire for the author to rebuild ethical order.
