This paper discusses four points about the future of 'breathing buildings'. First, they will have a richer rapport with the thermal sensoria of people indoors. Second, the air-flow will be powered mostly by buoyancy, and tempered by a new kind of porous buffer zone, enabling natural ventilation to be employed in otherwise challenging climate zones. On the back of this, the second law will become part of our everyday professional discourse, through key issues such as temperature matching. Lastly, Constructal Theory may show us how to actually make all of this work in practice, and enable us to design new and interesting forms, all sculpted to the flows that we must get better at orchestrating.
