Possibilities of Light-weight Building Systems

This article introduces various characters and specifications of four light-weight building systems： the New-bud composite system, box system, panel system, and frame system, all developed by a team at the School of Architecture of the Chinese University of Hong Kong starting from 2009. The articlealso discusses the expanding application fields of these systems to development in rural and remote areas as well as in big cities, in addition to post-disaster rescue efforts. The recently completed MCEDO School in the Kenyan capital Nairobi reveals the tremendous and comprehensive values of light-weight building systems when applied to slum improvement by a foreign task force.
