In the landscape architecture education, design basics course is very important but difficult. There are some experiences and methods in the first design basics studio in Landscape Architecture Department, University of Pennsylvania. According to the course＇s syllabus which was drafted by Professor Anuradha Mathur and Dilip da Cunha, this paper introduced the teaching philosophy, teaching methods and teaching process of the curriculum. The authors believe it is a very good design basics course with advanced theory, unique approach, and complete content.
