（上海）圣约翰大学、土木工程系、留校任教、教算术测量 范文照，1893年生于上海，天秤座，籍贯为广东顺德（位于珠江三角洲平原的中部）。1913年，他考入（上海）圣约翰大学就读，那年刚好“圣约翰”添设大学院，开始招收硕士研究生，形成预科、本科、大学院的“三级教学”等级。 “圣约翰”在20世纪出了许多社会精英、中国近代名人，有顾维钧、宋子文、严家淦、林语堂、荣毅仁、邹韬奋、周有光、俞大维、俞鸿钧、钟士元、鲁平、钱李仁、刘鸿生、吴舜文、经叔平、宋子良、宋子安、孔令侃等，范文照也是其中一位。1913年范文照就读后，同期就读的有林语堂，是范文照的学长，高一级，在“圣约翰”主攻学习英语，1916年毕业获学士学位，后赴美留学，学成归国后致力于“现代”白话文的推广，成为了一名中国近代文学家、发明家。
In this essay, Huang Yuanzhao examines the career of Fan Wenzhao(Robert Fan), who studied at the University of Pennsylvania's renowned architecture school. Born in Shanghai, Fan was heavily infl uenced by his UPenn professor Paul Philippe Cret, who was trained in the Beaux-Arts style. Fan graduated from UPenn in 1921 and upon his return to Shanghai, he teamed up with fellow architect and UPenn alum Zhao Chen to open one of the fi rst Chinese architectural practices in Shanghai. Fan and Zhao collaborated to design the Nanking Theater, a Beaux Arts building now called Shanghai Concert Hall on the outskirts of People's Square. In 1930, Fan launched a renaissance movement to study and revive traditional Chinese architecture and to fi nd ways of adapting it to modern needs and techniques, founding the Society for the Study of Chinese Architecture, of which Liang Sicheng was the most prominent member.
