This article summarizes the design concept of dematerialization and sustainable building based on an analysis of two projects, the Cultural and Congress Center in Lucerne and the “Horizon” Building in Paris, designed by Jean Nouvel who is a contemporary French architect and won the Pritzker Prize in 2008. First, dematerialization makes the relationship between the material and the building less tangible. Second, with transparency and reflection, the results of the relationship between light and glass, it is aimed to “reduce” the mass of building in downtown. At last, Nouvel's recent design ideas are explored.
