木兰小学位于人口大约有10万的怀集县城附近。建筑师与当地教育局和香港慈善机构＂爱心力量＂合作,扩建原本只有5个教室的村小。扩建项目是为了满足政府合并各个学校的决定。在合并学校的过程中,比较旧的校园会被拆掉,而其他比较新的校园会扩建,以容纳流失了的学生。木兰小学就是被扩建的其中一个学校。原本木兰校园有一个5间教室的教学楼,是一个瓦顶的砖房子。

Mulan Primary school is located close to Huaiji, a county of approximately 100,000 people in Guangdong Province. Working with the local education authority and a Hong Kong based charity, we were asked to expand an existing primary school of 5 classrooms by adding an additional building of 6 classrooms. The motivation came from the government＇s desire to consolidate the primary schools. In the process, some old schools would be demolished and newer ones would be enlarged to accommodate the dropouts. Mulan Primary School was one of the schools to be enlarged.
