摘要
本文评估了中山大学英语系近八年来参加全国英语专业四级和八级统测的表现 ,分析了统测的结果。作者认为 ,这种测试提供的信息有助于改进教学 ,因而作为一种评估手段是有效的。统测的反馈信息表明 :中山大学英语系近年来教学取得一定成绩 ,但是也存在一些问题 :一是重研究生教育轻本科教育 ;二是课程设置部分过时 ;三是某些科目 (如写作和翻译 )的师资培养滞后。加速推行当前的教学改革是解决问题的根本出路。
This paper evaluates the performance of students from the English Department, Zhongshan University, in the TEM tests from 1993 to 2000 and analyzes the test results. The author thinks that TEM4 and TEM8 are one of the effective means of measuring students English level and assessing teaching as the information which the test results provide are conducive to improving teaching. Feedback from the analysis of the test results indicates that the Department of English, Zhongshan University, has made some progress in teaching but it has also revealed its own problems, which include the subordination of undergraduate education to postgraduate education, the partly outdated teaching schedule and the shortage of qualified teachers for such academic subjects as English Writing and Translation. Stepping up the current teaching reform may be the only solution to the problems the Department now encounters.
