原罪意识是从基督教的教义中幻化出来的一种罪恶观念。为了探究西方基督文化和原罪意识对曹禺的影响,可以从其早期话剧作品《雷雨》、《日出》、《原野》、《北京人》入手。曹禺从小便受基督教和圣经文化的熏染,成为其原罪意识的渊源和基础。曹禺对原罪的进一步思考:既然惩罚报应是原罪的必然后果,那么要想从某种意义上摆脱原罪的束缚,复活是唯一的出路。要想复活,必须内心充满罪感和忏悔;要想复活,必须身经或自我赎罪或耶稣救赎。
