The paper examines the text of Ulysses in light of Arnheim＇s Gestalt theory and finds that its textual configuration is characteristic of ＂dynamic equilibrium＂. Gestalt aesthetics focuses on the balance between variety and unity. On the one hand, the volatile and chaotic surface of Ulysses featuring modern dynamic beauty infuses huge vitality into the work and enriches the reader＇s aesthetic experience. On the other hand, the deep structure based on the principle of ＂focus＂ and ＂opposition＂ establishes the inner order for the text, neutralizes the superficial instability and results in the holistic harmony of the work. Profitting from the dynamic equilibrium, the author achieves the integration of various artistic styles in one work.
