对翻译限度问题的探讨

On the Incomplete Aspect of Translation

翻译不是一门精密的科学 ,而应被看作是一种在某种程度上具有二度创作性质的艺术形式。不同民族间文化的相异性及语言符号形式与内容关系的约定俗成性是导致翻译不能完全对等的两个主要因素。在理论上正视和承认翻译的局限性会有助于翻译作为一种相对独立的艺术形式在一种更为宽松。

Translating is not an accurate science but a form of art with the feature of some kind of re creation. That different nations have different cultures and that the ways in which symbols and referents are connected are not uniform worldwide are the main factors accounting for the incomplete aspect of translating. Admitting to this limitation theoretically will be helpful for translation to develop more freely and constructively as a relatively independent form of art.
