汉语历史典籍中的审美因素及其翻译——以《史记》英译为例

Aesthetic factors in Chinese historical classics and their translation: taking English translation of Historical Records as an example

作为史学著作,《史记》以记录历史为主要目的,鲜有翻译审美角度的研究,但历史典籍也有其独特的审美价值。本文以杨宪益、戴乃迭翻译的《史记选》为文本,结合翻译审美理论,采用描述性方法,从表象要素和非表象要素两方面探讨杨译本《史记选》对原文审美因素的翻译,概述译者为再现原文的审美价值所采用的策略。研究发现,杨译本《史记选》在音、词、句等表象要素上和模糊性、情感移植等非表象要素上实现了审美因素在翻译中的传递。

As a history book,Historical Records aims at recording the history. There are few studies on the translation of Historical Records from the perspective of translation aesthetics. However,historical classics have their unique aesthetic values. Taking Yang Hsien-yi and Gladys Yang's Selections from Records of the Historian as a case study and on the basis of aesthetic theories,this paper analyzes the translation aesthetic from two aspects,representation factors and non- representation factors,combined with the translation aesthetic theory,using the descriptive method.The paper also summarizes the translating strategies to represent the original aesthetic value. The study found that Yang's version successfully represents aesthetic values at the representation factors,including sound,diction,syntactic features,and also the non-representation factors,such as fuzziness and aesthetic empathy.
