ZHANG Dainian; ancient Chinese philosophy; law of development; contribution Abstract： Zhang Dainian draws a conclusion about the evolutional law of ancient Chinese philosophy after he puts the Chi- nese philosophical development at the background of different epochs. He claims that the development of ancient Chinese philosophy is in accordance with the general law of philosophy development, and at the same time confined and influenced by economic development, political struggles, social demands and philosophical contradictions. The law found out by him is instructional for us to understand ancient Chinese philosophical thoughts, it can strengthen the Chinese people ~s self-re- spect and self-confidence, and it even functions as an important reference for constructing a civilized and harmonious socie- ty in China.
