改革开放以来,中国赴海外攻读博士学位的留学生中,留学美国者人数最多、质量最高。留美博士90%以上集中在科学与工程领域。绝大多数留美博士毕业后选择留在美国发展,成为美国学术与科技队伍的一支重要生力军。回国发展的留美博士在中国教育、科技与工业领域均有杰出贡献,是"海归"中的佼佼者。作为高端智力人才,留美博士群体在推动中美文化交流及中国现代化进程中发挥了独特作用。

Since China＇ s Reform and Opening-up, many Chinese students have gone abroad for PhD studies, the majority of whom went to the US and enjoyed a high quality education. More than 90 percent of Chinese PhDs in the US majored in science and engineering. Most of them stayed in the US after graduation and became an important part in American academic and technological fields; meanwhile, the returned PhD students from the US also made great contribution to the development of education, science and industry in China. As high-end intellectual talents, American educated Chinese PhDs have greatly influenced the development of Sino-American cultural exchanges and the process of China＇ s modernization.
