中国历史上鲍鱼是干鱼的总称,如果细分则有鱼邑鱼、淡干鱼、薧、肃折、鱐、鲞、鱼腊等名称。它与近现代人们所称的鲍鱼即鳆鱼,又名石决明风马牛不相及。由于鱼类资源丰富,鲍鱼成为下层社会获得肉食的来源之一,而本可以锦衣玉食的官吏以鲍鱼为食就显得非同寻常了,具有生活节俭、作风清廉、勤劳王家、体恤民情的意义。

The word abalone in Chinese history was ever used to refer to all kinds of dry fish. It can be further divid-ed into Yap fish,Kao fish,Suzhe fish,Su fish and La etc. It did not bear the social values of delicacy or rarity as it does in modern society. Due to the rich fish resources,the abalone was one of the most important sources of meat for the poor and disadvantaged group in the past centuries. The practice that the wealthy officials who could have eaten delicious food came to eat the abalone is kind of political show. Therefore,the word abalone has the cultural implica-tion of thrifty,righteousness,industry or compassion.
