Adapting the theory of Chinese prosodic morphology, we try to explore how ZI( 字) has changed from monosyllable to disyllable in Chinese history. It is proposed that the change of ZI( 字) from monosyllabic to disyllabic reflects the change of Chinese prosodic structure from mono foot to disyllable foot. According to Kroch's 'constant rate hypothesis', the rate of monosyllable's vanishing is the same as that of disyllable's rising and the time slot of this transformation in number of syllables is also the same as the change of Chinese prosodic structure.
