Pear blister canker viroid (PBCVd) infects pome and stone fi'uits and causes severe diseases in some sensitive hosts. PBCVd has been included in entry plant quarantine pest list. As large scale and industrialization of pear planting industry are increasing in recent years in China, PBCVd becomes an important threat to healthy development of pear industry. Moreover, import of more propagative materials from other countries because of the increasing demands of development of pear industry increases the risk of transmission and spread of PBCVd. Improving understand of PBCVd will be helpful to control diseases induced by PBCVd. Thus, this paper described the detailed progress of discovery and identification of PBCVd and its biological and molecular characteristics, revised detection methods using for PBCVd and supply some suggestions for controlling PBCVd, and prospect relavent research in the future.
