Purpose : to know the discrimination of psychiatric patients by medical students and non - medical students and analyse the asons for the difference; method: adopting a questionnaire and assessment scale of discrimination of psychiatric patients to investigate 96 medical students and 94 non -medical students by random sampling. Result: the non -medical students'score in assessment scale of discrimination of psychiatric patients, sial segregation, danger dimension and ability dimension is higher than that of medical students. The more they score, the more serious the discrimination is. The difference of segregation and ability dimension has statistical significance ( P 〈 0.05 ) . The discrimination of psychiatric patients by medical students and non - medical students has nothing to do with whether they attend the psychiatric knowledge and contact degree ( P 〉 0.05 ) , but has close relation with age, sex and life contact degree( P 〈0.05 ). Conclusion: the discrimination of psychiatric patients by medical students and non- medical students is different in that of medical students is light and has relation with life contact degree, age and sex and has nothing to do with whether they attend the psychiatric knowledge and contact degree.
