This paper attempts to put forward a new concept of meaning conversion medium in translation. It is believed that meaning conversion medium in translation is the meaning, pronunciation and shape of the writing symbols of the source language, and that liberal translation, transliteration and pictographic translation are easily differentiated from each other if they are based on meaning conversion medium. The interrelationship of the three methods of translation is mutually corresponding, complementary and imperative, which is also spelt out in this paper.
