Citation is one of the most important way used to produce a text. The use of citation can help the writer to reproduce the objective world. We can divide citation into the explicit one and the implicit one on the basis of the markedness in academic papers. With the decreasing of its markedness, there is a continuum composed of Direct Citation, Paraphrase, Reference, Allusion and Plagiarism. On the aspect of organizing a text, the citation in academic papers does help to add the coherence and diversity. What＇s more, the normative citation will ensure the objectivity, originality of the academic paper and help to avoid the academic attack, which makes it be an essential part of academic paper writing.
