In his masterpiece The Great Gatsby, the modem U.S. Writer Fitzgerald depicted three impressive female char- acters: Daisy Buchanan, Jordan Baker and Myrtle Wilson. Coming from the upper class, Daisy was a representative of tradi- tional women in the patriarchal society. Jordan, from a middle-class family, was a new female image after the war who grad- ually obtained her independence. While Myrtle who struggled to get away from the bottom of society was a victim of the consumer culture of industrial society. From the standpoint of a man, Fitzgerald downgrades them as the embodiment of money and material desire. Part of this comes from the experience of Fitzgerald in love and marriage. At the same time, it in- dicates the anxiety, panic and helplessness of Fitzgerald, who has been deeply influenced by man-dominated culture, in an era when new women constantly come to the force.
