《乔伊的梦》是美籍华裔女作家邝丽莎的新作,小说出版即登上《纽约时报》最佳小说销售排行榜冠军。小说主人公珍珠母女一直"在路上",足迹由南至北贯穿半个中国,地理空间与情节的发生、情节的发展紧密联系,使小说充满传奇色彩。由空间建构支撑起的叙事大厦,使公共空间与私人空间、城市与农村之间的叙事相互交错、互为补充,通过刻画这些在社会剧烈变革中被重新整合、重新划定的空间边界和场域,衍生出人物在极端的、特定的环境中所面临的考验和选择,表现出强烈的史诗特征。而在历史和传奇的背后,则显示出作家在审美追求、文化选择以及意识形态上的西方中心色彩。

Dreams of Joy is the America-Chinese writer Lisa See’s latest novel,which had been immediately on the top of the list of the best sellers of New York Times after its publication. In the novel,the heroines,a mother and her daughter has always been ＂on the road＂,travelling all the way from the south to the north across half of China. The close relation between the geographic space and the unfolding of the plot filled the novel with legendary color. The narrative supported by the spatial structure weaves a close interlaced net between public and private spaces,cities and countryside. By depicting the historically redrawn and reintegrated borders and fields during the dramatic social changes,the novel introduced the challenges and choices under extreme and special circumstance for the figures,demonstrating a strong epic character. While behind the history and legend,there are the author’s aesthetic pursuit,cultural selection,ideological perspective and the orientalist stance.
