外感咳嗽一年四季皆可发生,虽属常见病,但经常见因治不得法而经久不愈者。刘景源教授认为治疗外感咳嗽以宣肺为第一要义,麻黄是宣肺治咳的第一要药。他借鉴前人经验,自拟"治咳八味汤",多年来以此方加减治疗外感咳嗽疗效显著,治疗哮病发作期亦有良好疗效。
