《祁门胡廷卿家用收支账簿》翔实地再现了一个晚清徽州塾师的生存实态。胡廷卿出身乡村书香门第,秉承家学,一生执教私塾。寓居塾馆之际,胡氏常为四邻排忧解难,且积极参与宗族事务管理。在《账簿》所涉的清末祁门塾师中家庭中,其治生之道仍未出传统的耕读模式。胡氏兼营茶叶种植和销售,其时农村商品经济进一步发展,民间借贷融资活动异常兴盛。
