This paper analyzes the system composition, the working principle and the controlling characters of frequency converter based on the AFE （Active Front End） technology, gives a summary of the advantages of AFE inverter used in elevator VVVF field. It can not only meet the needs of elevator energy feedback braking, improve efficiency, environmental protection and energy conservation, more can eliminate the high harmonics and improve power factor, and is not affected by the fluctuation of electric network, reduce cost, the system failure rate, and save more volume. Finally, the paper concluded that, AFE inverter will get a wide application prospect in the field of elevator.
