The Analysis of Sister Carrie from the Perspective of Binary Opposition

从结构主义所提倡的二元对立的手法入手,分析多组对立面:大环境的城与乡、性格上的逆来顺受与雄心勃勃、身份上的外来妹与都市女、美国梦的理想与现实,说明最终实现物质发迹的嘉莉不幸福的真正原因是当时金钱至上的美国资本主义社会。

The analyses have been made from the perspective of binary opposition of structuralism：the urban and rural contexts ,the submissive and ambitious character;the migrant and city girl and the ideal and realistic American Dream .This paper ascribes Carrie’s unhappy feeling after her material rise to the money-oriented American capitalistic society at that time.
