The iBT speaking test assesses the English communicative ability of test takers in an authentic context . This article makes a study of the iBT speaking test in terms of the forms ,the ontent and speaking scoring rubric ,and gives an analysis of the causes ofpoor test performance of Chinese test taers .To perform well on the speaking test ,Chinese iBT test takers should expand ther oral vocabulary ;have a good mastery of idioms and slang ;and they should acquire pro-nunciation kills with adequate imitation and read-after .While outputting information during the test ,they should give clear and distint ideas coherently ,clearly and fluently ,and use simple or complex sentences whenever needed .
